Chau Doc to Phnom Penh by BoatQuestion... Hi, I would like to travel by the express boat from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh on the 16th December. What is the cost? What time does the boat leave? How long is the journey? We would like to catch the bus from Phnom Penh in the afternoon to Siem Reap. Thank you. Kind Regards. Question Answered...The boat journey from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh is a great, scenic way to get over from Vietnam to Cambodia but it can be a hassle. There is no where you can get the tickets online and I would not recommend getting them beforehand anyway. The tickets are available at ANY hotel, guesthouse or travel agent ANYWHERE in Vietnam. I have done the trip a few times and I buy my tickets from a travel agent on Bui Vien street in district 1 of Saigon. They are easy as heck to get and I have never seen a full boat yet. Just head to a travel agent near your hotel and get a price and then head to the next agent and deal your way down in cost. They can go for over $25USD and can come down to as low as $14 if you shop around. (If that sounds complicated, it is not. You will have offers of tickets everywhere you go and ANY guesthouse you stay in will sell the tickets) Remember that most buses head from Saigon to Chau Doc and overnight it there before getting the boat the following morning. The boat Leaves at about 11am. If you get a bus from Saigon, you won't get to Chau Doc before 11am so you are forced to overnight there. Check with the travel agent because there is 1 bus that can get you on a same day boat but only 1. If you don't mind an overnight in Chau Doc then wonderful but it is not a place to visit, really. (I haven't taken the boat for over a year. The tour groups want you to overnight in Chau Doc so make no effort to get you there on time.
