Experience but no degree!

by Anna
(Hong Kong)

I have been living and working in Beijing for the past two years. I have a lot experience at both public schools and learning centres. I have worked for some of the best schools in the city including BFLS ( Beijing Foreign Language school - affiliated with Beijing foreign language university) and the Beijing Forestry University. However I have no degree. Will I be able to work in Vietnam?

If you could give me any help or advise I would really appreciate it

Yes to Vietnam without a degree
by: Philip

you'll find it pretty easy to find work in Vietnam. However, without a degree you will be treated as a second class citizen.

With a degree, You will have a work permit sored for you as well as a permanent visa and a very high rate of pay. $3000USD a month is standard for a person with a degree.

Without a degree you can still earn up to 1500USd a month but you will have no work permit so you will be working illegally. Most schools pay the police a bribe to look the other way but illegals working without a work permit (Which can only be obtained if you hold a degree) can and have been deported from the country.

You will also have to leave the country to renew your visa every 3 months. With no work permit, you are allowed only 3 months stay. It is pretty easy to head to Cambodia and renew your visa but a pain in the butt.

So, the answer is yes. You can and will find work in Vietnam. But the benefits to having a degree are huge and without risk.
