Is 7 Days in Phnom Penh Too Much?

Hello,

My husband and I are going to Cambodia in February. We are not at all interested in seeing Angkor Wat so we were going to give Siem Reap a miss and go to Phnom Penh and maybe Laos (Luang Prabang).

We have 14 days.

Is 7 days too much in Phnom Penh? Could you recommend some things to see and do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Sam

7 days is too long in Phnom Penh for some people. For many others, 7 days is not nearly enough.

Many of the most popular tourist sites in Phnom Pehn can be seen in a few days. They are all mainly temples or tributes to those who suffered during the reign of Pol Pot, who conducted a program of genocide that saw upwards of 2-3 million people killed.

If you are interested in renting off-road bikes for tours through the mountains, riding in the back if an open Jeep through the dense jungle road to the Cambodian Wildlife Sanctuary, or spending a day pool side at one of the many Top Phnom Penh Hotels then a week is not nearly long enough.

You might also consider taking the 5 hour bus ride down to the beaches at Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

A trip up to Luang Prabang in Laos is a long one unless you intend to fly. Then it gets expensive.

A ticket from Phnom Penh to Luam Prabang direct will cost as much as $340USD.

Philip.
