Malaria in Cambodia

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Thailand in April.

We thought it might be a good idea to hop over to Cambodia and check out Angkor Wat. However, we've learned that Cambodia unlike most parts of Thailand) is a big malaria risk.

I have been in Cambodia more than a year and Vietnam more than 2 years and Thailand 3 years. I have had every section of my body bitten and have never gotten Malaria.

It is also more frequent in the North of Thailand than you think.

Cambodia is no more risk Malaria-wise than Thailand.

All you can do is follow the traditional route by protecting yourself with insect Repellent. Don't miss any part of your body cause the get everywhere. And always sleep under a mosquito net.

You'll find some rooms without them so make sure to move to a room with a mosquito net. They are life-savers because it's at night when you're asleep that you are most vulnerable.

I tried those Malaria pills during a Cambodia travel jaunt and I felt like I was losing my mind. The Side-Effects are uncomfortable, especially at night when you sleep. I had some frightening dreams.

Get all your shots before you go to Thailand and talk to a doctor. You should be more worried about hepatitis A or B than Malaria.
