Questions about Working in Ho Chi Minh City
I find your articles very helpful.
I am in the process of finishing up my TEFL certificate, have 2 years of Elementary Education, a nursing assistant certificate and am fluent in American Sign language for the deaf (not that that would help me over in Vietnam because it is not a universal language :(
I have been to Vietnam twice for summer mission trips so I am pretty culturally aware and relatively well travelled. I am a 21 year old female and just really want to take a college break and get back to Vietnam.
As I read your articles I am rethinking going thru a program like teachaway and trying my luck once I get in country??? That makes me a bit nervous, but you make some good points here ... can you give me any additional advice?
Thanks for your help. Megan============================

Do you believe it possible to know a person's character just by reading what they write and how they go about contacting you? It's a fine line between an ass/um/tion and the truth.
You are articulate and have already read most of the information here and have put time and effort into writing your questions. You are a hard-worker and obviously intelligent.
If you play your cards right, you could be picking from a list of offers from many different schools for your services.
You are Fluent in American Sign Language? That is an amazing 'extra' that will make your Resume shine.
You don't need any more education or certificates. You have more than enough. You really have some talents.
You are worth $2,500USD a month in Vietnam. I don't know what to do with you because your qualifications are so diverse and I am not sure what you want.
A great life can be had by working at RMIT Vietnam
and living nearby in District 7.
Or maybe you should hit the big corporations at the HTC Industrial Park
in Ho Chi Minh City. It would be interesting to see what kind of offers come your way.
Do it on your own, Megan. It takes a lot of confidence and Guts to do what you want but I can guarantee that some amazing offers will come your way. You just have to make sure that you get your resume into the right hands.
You should be focusing more on the type of job you are going to take rather than if you can make it. You'll probably hook up with a bunch of girls living in a huge mansion for $1000USD a month divided by 4 and working just 20 hours a week.
I actually want you to consider Cambodia. That is a whole new matter, though.
Just get on the plane, Megan. You already have everything you need. Teachaway is just for people who are too scared to believe in themselves.
I don't think you belong with them, Megan. Do you?
