Saigon Weather (Ho Chi Minh City Weather) Both Current and Forcasted

Saigon Weather or Ho Chi Minh City weather is about rain, stifling heat and a short spells of perfectly warm days and slightly chilly nights.

The weather Ho Chi Minh City serves up changes but once a year.

They say that there are 3 seasons in Saigon but there are really just 2 seasons of weather Saigon offers.

The Dry Season and The Wet Season.

Or as some say, "The Hot Season and the Hotter Season".

I think they are all wrong. There is a third season and I like to call it "The Best Season to Travel Vietnam".

It is an elusive and unpredictable season, yet it is by far the very best time to visit Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).

The Rainy Season's Affect on Saigon Weather

The Saigon Weather from May to November is usually the rainy season.

The city gets so wet that I once drove my motorcycle into a waist deep lake of run-off rain water in the middle of a double-lane road.

The motorbike could not swim so I pushed it home. The average rainfall in Saigon is 81inches with 150 days of rain per year.

Rain is heaviest and the danger from typhoons the highest from July to November.

That all sounds so scary. The truth is that most days, even in the deepest of the Monsoon season, the rain doesn't come until the evening so the days are usually sunny up to around 4pm to 9pm.

I love the rainy season. Rent a little hut on the rocks of Halong Bay near Hanoi.

If you are lucky and the storms come, it just might be the most beautiful thing to watch on this earth.

That is why I disagree when people advise this as the worst time to visit Vietnam. Prices are cheaper, crowds are smaller, airfare is much cheaper and every night you will get to watch a light show like you have never seen before.

The Dry Season and Saigon Weather

The dry season lasts from December to April. The average temperature is 28 °C (82 °F), the highest temperature sometimes reaches 39 °C (102 °F) around noon in late April, while the lowest may fall below 16 °C (61 °F) in the early mornings of late December.

The dry season lasts from December to April.

December starts out really nice and might just be the best month to come. It is at the tail end of the rainy season so you do get occasional rains but it is eventually cool, dry and the most beautiful and comfortable time to visit not only Saigon but Vietnam in general.

The pollution in Saigon is so great that it must affect the weather. Some of the cloudy days are the worst because the pollution is just held in the city, under a cloud of gasses.

A Saigon weather fact is that the yearly humidity averages about 75%. That is sweaty butt cheeks weather and that is an all year round average.

You can pretty much expect to sweat like a fish and in the hottest months your fan will no longer help. It will begin to blow hot, scorching air into your face like you just opened a hot oven after cooking some Yorkshire Puddings.

The Best Season for Saigon Weather

At the very end of December, perhaps even the very last week of the month, the gods come down from the heavens and bathe our non-deserving bums with perfect weather.

From then on it is like a sunny day in a normally cold place. The air is near to crisp, the sweat of normal life in Vietnam is no longer there and you are dancing with Japanese monkeys in hot pools of water on the side of a snowy mountain top!

The end of December or even the last week in December is a good time to get the best weather right across Vietnam. It is still very cold at Night in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, but generally it is the nicest time Vietnam Weather-wise.

Bottom line?

Early January is the time to go with Mid-February being just the right time to leave!
