The Top Siem Reap Hotels and an Angkor Wat Guesthouse for Cheap

These Siem Reap Hotels are priced for Budget Travelers looking for an Angkor Wat Guest House that is located in Siem Reap. These are the top 3 places to stay in Siem Reap for the lowest prices.

You can do your own research on all available budget Hotels in Siem Reap (Some are under $5USD a Night) and read what other travelers have to say over at TripAdvisor before you book.

The first thing I learned was that the better the location of your hotel the more you'll have to pay.

You need not worry if you are staying in a 5 Star hotel but you must choose carefully when looking for cheap priced hotels in Siem Reap.

The very cheapest 1 and 2 star hotels are mostly located in the very center of the city.

The 4 and 5 Star Angkor Wat Hotels live in their own world, protected by gates and located either just outside the city or along '5 Star Hotel Alley', which you'll see along the road towards the Gates to Angkor Wat.

This page is not about them.

It may feel great to save a Dollar or two on your hunt for a budget hotel in Siem Reap but there is always a cost.

  • Stay too close to the Central Market you will soon realize that the odor from the Markets can be unbearable.
  • Stay too close to the bars and nightclubs and you'll hardly get a good night's sleep.
  • Stay too close to a roadway or a construction site and you'll be woken at 5.30 every morning whether you like it or not.

The bus drivers coming from Bangkok through the Poipet / Aranyaprathet border crossing will go to great lengths to delay your arrival in Siem Reap. Once night has fallen it is more difficult for you to find a hotel.

They will then reccommend the best hotel and try to herd everyone into an Angkor Wat Guest House that pays them a commission. A commission which is built into the price.

Hotels that use this tactic are usually hurting for customers because the rooms are not good and their prices are high. Many unprepared tourists wake up to a filthy room with no plumbing and located down some forgotten alley with dirt roads far from either the city or the Temples at Angkor wat.

It is a good reason to choose a hotel beforehand and make a reservation. Even with a reservation, you don't pay for the room until you have checked out. The owner will often send someone to the bus station to pick you up.

If you have chosen the right hotel the owners often become very protective of you and will make sure you sleep in the bed you reserved. He might just be doing it to collect his money but what is good for him is also good for you.

If you arrive on a fishy tour bus from Bangkok they won't be able to scam you into a crap hotel. Either way, you'll be way ahead of the game if you decide on a place to stay before you get there.

Most the 1 and 2 star hotels Siem Reap offers are located in the city of Siem Reap than near the Angkor Temples.

Our Angkor Wat Hotels and Resorts page has a few hotels in the city but metaphorically, they are in a bubble and don't experience the noise of the city.

The Siem Reap hotels on this page do feel much of the city and hear much of it as well.

Some of the prices are so low that you will not believe it even after you've seen it. To barter a price on a room once you arrive is pointless because the cost of rooms is cheaper online and you don't have to pay until after you check out.

The Best Budget Angkor Wat Guest House and Siem Reap Hotels

  • Hak's House

Build Bright Road, Siem Reap, Cambodia 120000

Haks House Siem Reap

Hak's is a newcomer to the Siem Reap Hotels scene. It has only been open for a short time. They need to work some of the kinks out but you usually can't go wrong with booking the newest place in town with rooms starting under $7USD.

The newer Siem Reap Hotels and Angkor Wat Guest House tends to be clean and the staff are not yet tired of their jobs and everything usually works.

There were a few bumps during my stay at Hak's house but the owner is trying hard to bring back tourists. He speaks great English and seemed to want everything to go well for all the guests while I was there.

It is located about 1000M past the Old Market in the opposite direction of Siem Reap and the Angkor Temples. That puts it quite far out of town but a short Tuk Tuk ride to anywhere and no worries about noise or unpleasant smells.

Unless your wife farts as often as mine does.

The only problem is that some people might find Hak's House to be a bit too far out of town than other Siem Reap Hotels.

Others will enjoy the chance to get a good night's sleep before tackling the physically taxing trek around the temples at Angkor Wat.

Budget Private Single Rooms go for just $6.84USD a night. A bed in the Dorm Rooms of 6 people goes for just $4.87USD a night.

  • The Golden Mango Inn

No 0658, Chongkaosou Village, Slokram Commune, Siem Reap Distric & Province Siem Reap, Cambodia 855

Golden Mango Inn Siem Reap Hotels

I really wanted to put the Golden Mango Inn at top spot of budget Siem Reap Hotels.

I didn't do that because Hak's House is so cheap when compared to many other Hotels in Siem Reap. Even compared to some of the most worn and dingiest Siem Reap Hotels in the noisiest and smelliest parts of town.

You sure get a lot in return for the price at the Golden Mango Inn.

Spend $27USD for two people and that will include free breakfast, free WiFi in your room, free Tuk-Tuk rides into town (Unlimited), pedal bikes to use free of charge, A free drink and a warm welcoming on your arrival as well as a large two double-bed room with AC.

The problem is that it is not within walking distance of Siem Reap town. The Tuk-Tuk ride to town is free but you have to find your own way back. It should be no more than a 10 minute ride to and from town.

The property has everything you need. There is a even a restaurant right outside with cold pitchers of Anchor beer for $1.75USD each. After your second beer you'll soon learn that there is another (Usually more popular) place located just a short walk away.

You will also have a hard time finding better food for such a low price as you'll get at the hotel's restaurant. The menu is big enough so that you won't feel the need to head into the city to find good food at a reasonable price.

This hotel feels like it is embarrassed at how far out of town they are. They seem to be trying to compensate for the location by providing everything you'll need in a pleasant, high quality manner for excellent prices.

That's a winning combination anywhere. The Golden Mango Inn happens to be where we always choose to stay when visiting the Temples at Angkor Wat.

A Private Single Ensuite will run at $15.47USD / Night.

You can book a room here at The Golden Mango Inn, Siem Reap, Cambodia for the best prices.

  • Hotel 89

Taphul street, Phum Taphul, Sangkat Svay Dangkum Siem Reap, Cambodia

Hotel 89 Siem Reap Hotels

The Hotel 69 is in the heart of Siem Reap. You can walk to a good selection of restaurants and bars while the Temples of Angkor Wat remain no more than a short 10 minute Tuk Tuk ride away.

But have a look the Angkor Wat Tours that we have found and now used. What you get for the cost makes these private tours almost ridiculous to ignore.

This hotel is within walking distance of the night market if you fancy anything during the night and the hotel offers free transportation to and from the airport in Siem Reap.

The hotel offers a very good-sized free morning breakfast that includes toasted bread, ham and egg with coffee. They go heavy on the eggs so if that is not your thing then pack your stomach elsewhere.

The reception desk in the hotel is open 24 hours and you can get free Wi-Fi access throughout the hotel.

The air-conditioned rooms at 89 Hotel feature a flat-screen TV with cable. There is also a minibar with a couple of packets of tea and coffee so you can make your own in the provided coffee-making machine. Your bathroom is private and has both hot and cold water.

Tips: Get a room facing the back and not out onto the street or sides. The sun blares right past the thin blinds in the front rooms so you can't sleep no matter how tired you are.

I last visited Hotel 89 on the 25th of May 2011. There was a lot of construction going on at that time and they all begin jack-hammering at about 5.30am. Siem Reap is growing so fast that it is tough to get away from it.

At $15.00USD a night for a Private Single Ensuite, It is a top budget hotel in Siem Reap.

Stay Safe While at These and other Siem Reap Hotels

I don't recommend that you ever bring a strange woman back to your room. That goes for all budget Siem Reap hotels except the 5 star Resorts on our Angkor Wat Hotels page because they have a private safe in every room.

Many of the 1 and 2 star Siem Reap hotels listed here do not allow Local Women in the hotel but they will hardly dispute your word if you say it is a friend. If you are going to do this (I do live in the real world) then lock your valuables in the safe at the reception's desk.

The 1 and 2 star Siem Reap Hotels offer a single safe at the reception desk.

All Guest must leave Identification with the reception staff at all Siem Reap Hotels no matter what (Especially females of Cambodian Decent). Don't give them a hard time about it. They keep a close eye on anyone who enter your room and for how long they had the key.

The last thing they want is to have something go missing out of your room. Just remember that they can't protect you from yourself and that alcohol makes us unusually stupid at times.
